Overview
Longwanqun National Forest Park is located in the central section of the Longgang Mountains of the Changbai Mountain range, within Huinan county, Jilin province. The average elevation is 880 meters, and it spans an area of 8,102 hectares. The park is renowned for its complex terrain and unique volcanic crater lake clusters. The total area of the park is 8,102 hectares, of which 227 hectares are water. In January 2015, it was included in the first batch of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Green List.
Major Attractions
Dalongwan
Dalongwan is located about 1 kilometer south of Jinchuan Village, Jinchuan Town, at an elevation of 629 meters. With a water area of 81 hectares and a maximum depth of about 88 meters, Dalongwan is the largest among the seven Longwan lakes in the park.
Triangle Longwan
Triangle Longwan is located 6 kilometers east of Dalongwan, in Jinchuan Town. It has an elevation of 687 meters, a water area of 42.6 hectares, and a maximum depth of approximately 97 meters. It was formed 600,000 to 1,000,000 years ago by multiple volcanic eruptions, resulting in a connected volcanic crater lake. The shoreline of Triangle Longwan is winding, with steep cliffs and stunning peaks. The water is a deep, emerald green. The lake is named for its triangular shape, and in the center of the lake, there is a small island that looks like a stone flying out of the sky. Surrounded by white clouds and clear water, it is adorned with ecological wonders such as the Yingxia Cliff, making it a picturesque scene.
Diaoshuihu Waterfall
Located about 3.5 kilometers southeast of Dalongwan, the Diaoshuihu Waterfall is formed by the Xiangshui River, which originates in the Longgang Mountains of the Changbai range. Due to volcanic activity, the riverbed drops, creating a waterfall about 4 meters high and 13 meters wide. Locals call it the “Diaoshuihu,” meaning “water kettle.”
Rafting
The Longwan Rafting Area is located 1 kilometer east of the Houhe Forest Farm, downstream from the Xiangshui River, about 8 kilometers from Dalongwan. The rafting section stretches for 5 kilometers, with a vertical drop of 33.8 meters, an average river width of 5.6 meters, an average depth of 0.8 meters, and a water flow of 3.5 cubic meters per second.
Sifangding Mountain
At an elevation of 1,233.3 meters, Sifangding Mountain is the highest basaltic volcanic cone in the Longwan Scenic Area and the highest peak in Huinan county. The summit is a flat plateau of about 30 hectares, where unique forests and plant communities have developed due to the high-altitude climate.
